The Basics of Cooking With Cannabis
The basics of cooking with cannabis extract and concentrates are essential to successful meal preparation. Green Wednesday is usually a good time to stock up on all you'll need for the big day.
For our purposes, we will be focusing on preparing your Thanksgiving meal with Cannabutter and Cannabis Oil. If you are new to the world of cooking with cannabis, this section provides great foundational knowledge for Danksgiving recipes.
What Is Cannabutter?
One of the foundational ingredients for Danksgiving is your Cannabis butter. Cannabis butter, or cannabutter, can be purchased from a marijuana dispensary or created from scratch in your home.
To make cannabis-infused butter, you simply need 7 grams of ground cannabis and 1 cup of butter.
- Decarboxylate Your Cannabis- We must first activate the THC within your cannabis flower by decarboxylation. Decarboxylation converts the non-psychoactive THCA into the THC that we know and love. This can be accomplished by preheating your oven to 245' F. Place parchment paper atop a non-stick oven-safe tray and heat your cannabis for up to 40 minutes.
- Grind & Incorporate- Now you will grind the decarboxylated cannabis while melting 1 cup of butter with 1 cup of butter in a saucepan. As the saucepan simmers, add in your coarsely ground cannabis. Let simmer for up to 3 hours, never allowing a full boil.
- Strain & Refrigerate- After funneling your concoction through a cheesecloth (allowing it to cool first) you can place the solid butter in the refrigerator for about an hour to settle.
What Is Cannabis Oil?
Cannabis oil is another incredibly common way to cook with Cannabis. This Thanksgiving, create your own cannabis oil with just 2 cups of oil and 1 ounce of dried cannabis.
